TAMPA/SOCHI, Mar 22: Stamp collectors will be clamoring to get the latest collection of the Sochi stamps as the official philatelic program gets off the ground in Russia.

A sheet of stamps were released featuring the official logo of the Games placed over the Krasnaya Polyana Mountain range is paired with a symbolically designed torch with intertwined ribbons in the Olympic colors. This might very well be the first time an Olympic stamp features a .com logo also.

The images on the Sochi philatelia will be themed around winter sports, Olympic sports venues and also views of Krasnodarsk region.

The stamps read "Sochi - Capital of the XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014” and will be distributed all over the country throughout the post offices.

Sochi 2014 ceo Dmitry Chernyshenko, said, "The philatelic programme and the stamps are of huge value for collectors, and will preserve the memory of a historic moment in the life of the nation for future generations."

They were produced in conjunction with the Federal Communications Agency and will include 4 postage stamps and 45 different postmarks.

Aleksandr Kiselev, General Director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Pochta Rossii added, "The stamps and envelopes, which will spread all over the world, are the best way to immortalise the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. They will become a kind of calling card for the Sochi 2014 Games abroad and will help to attract interest in Russia and Russian sport".

Cards and postcards will be released before the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games, as well as sets of all the stamps issued on decorative envelopes.

Stamps and philatelic products issued by the host country are an important part of Olympic collecting and date back to 1896 when the modern Games began.
