TAMPA/PYEONGCHANG, Jan 25: The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic bid got another boost today from Hyundai Motors Group and the Korean Association of Newspapers (KAN) conglomerate.
Hyundai motors is South Korea’s largest car manufacturer and fifth in the world. The Korean Association of Newspapers comprises 47 media members including daily papers and a news agency.
The Hyundai Corporation donated 500 million Korean Won (approximately USD 450,000) and the Korean Association of Newspapers will offer exposure via the member media outlets for the duration of the bid campaign.
Bid chair Yang Ho Cho said, “On behalf of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, I would like to express great appreciation for the committed support from the Hyundai Motor Group and KAN. Their support and the nation’s passionate backing for our bid gives us an extra boost as we prepare for the important International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission visit to PyeongChang next month.”
On behalf of the Korean Association of Newspapers, president Jae Ho Kim says, “The Association is very pleased to add the support of our 47 members to help bring the 2018 Winter Games to Korea for the very first time. We look forward to working with the Bid Committee to deliver its media content and provide the enthusiastic Korean population with important news stories about the bid.”
PyeongChang is in the running for the 2018 bid race against Annecy and Munich and all three cities are preparing to welcome the official IOC visit as the evaluation commission readies to travel to all three in February and March.
The final decision will be taken in July in Durban, South Africa on July 6th at the IOC session.
