Annecy 2018 venue hosts Skicross World Cup - and winner David is delighted

TAMPA/ANNECY, Jan 19 : Les Contamines was the stage for the exciting Skicross World Cup last weekend in the Haute-Savoie pulling out the stops to host the exciting event.
Skicross is relatively new to the Olympic programme making its debut in Vancouver 2010. The sport is very popular with an increasing number of enthusiasts taking up the discipline. It is a mixture of technical skills and sheer talent, racers chase over a downhill obstacle course.
Ophélie David, gave the home fans a thrill by beating Canada's Kelsey Serwa and Sweden's Anna Holmlund, to win the event.
David is also Annecy 2018 athlete ambassador and Winter X-Games winner in Skicross 4 years running. She said : "Sunday's race was fantastic."
David also holds the 2007 World Championship and is a seven-times winner of the Crystal Globe in her discipline.
"The course was challenging and it was a real nail-biter right until the end; all the ingredients were there for a great race. The racers always look forward to the stage at Les Contamines, because we know the racing conditions will be excellent and an enthusiastic public will be there to cheer us on," she added.
The Haute-Savoie region is hosting this winter sports season a number of international elite events showcasing the region’s know-how in terms of hospitality and organisation of major international competitions.
Annecy is in the running for the winter 2018 Olympics against PyeongChang and Munich. The final decision will be voted in July at the IOC session in Durban, South Africa.
