LAUSANNE, Jan 12: Ticket sales for the 2012 Olympics can start, as scheduled, in March after the executive board of the IOC applied its formal rubber stamp to the sports schedules proposed by Lord Coe and his team for the London Games.

The latest step down the road which turns London 2012 from a private project into a public event was signalled by the latest update on progress by Gilbert Felli, the IOC’s Olympic Games executive director.

Following an IOC executive board meeting here in Lausanne he said: “We have discussed the finalisation of the sports schedule for London and we validated it. We also reviewed the venues and preparations of the organising committee and there was nothing new for us because of what we had already achieved on the last commission visit.”

** The timing for the award of the 2020 summer Games has been confirmed by the executive board. National Olympic Committees will be invited, by May 16, to submit the names of applicant cities with application confirmations due – assuming WADA and CAS compliance, by September 1.

February 15, 2012, is the deadline for the submission of application files and guarantee letters with the IOC executive ruling on candidate cities in May 2012.

The decision on the host for the 2020 Games will be taken on September 7, 2013, at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires.
