TAMPA/ANNECY, Jan 6 : The Annecy 2018 winter Games bid has signed a new partnership agreement with the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc to come on board as a local sponsor of the bid.

The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc is a major ski lift company in France and Europe and a key player in the scheme of the French bid.

Christian Monteil, Chairman of the Annecy 2018 Supervisory Board and President of the Haute-Savoie General Council, Jean-Luc Rigaut, Mayor of Annecy and Co-Chairman of Annecy 2018, and Mathieu Dechavanne, CEO of Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, met together today to ink the deal just prior to consignment of the bid file next Tuesday in Lausanne.

Monteil said, “It’s a huge asset for the bid, to have Compagnie du Mont-Blanc as one its sponsors, operating across 3 major ski-areas in Chamonix (Brévent-Flégère, Balme and Grands-Montets) and 3 famous excursion sites in the Chamonix valley (Montenvers-Mer de glace, the Aiguille du Midi and the Mont-Blanc to Saint-Gervais Tramway).

“We are thrilled to welcome to the marketing programme a business which is local to the Chamonix area, operating within the Annecy 2018 playing field.

Dechavanne added : “We are very excited at becoming a local supporter, joining forces with the Annecy bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. With 182 kilometres of pistes, the majority of our ski complex is at an altitude of more than 2000 m, providing excellent snow quality and guaranteeing exceptional conditions for athletes as well as the general public.

“We are particularly proud to be working hand in hand with an Olympic bid which puts sustainable development at the top of its priorities. Compagnie du Mont-Blanc is fully committed to environmental protection, as illustrated by the company's ISO14001 environmental certification awarded in December 2008.”

January 11th all three bid cities will be handing in to the IOC their final bid files for evaluation and consideration. The Evaluation Commission visits start off with Annecy first February 9-12, PyeongChang 16-19 and Munich March 1-4. The commission will then prepare a report to submit to the IOC EB and membership with their recommendations prior to the final vote.

The final vote will take place Durban, South Africa on July 6th 2011.
