BELGRADE, Nov. 27: Annecy's 2018 bid team has left the European Olympic Committee in no doubt about the solid support from its own French IOC members. Guy Drut was first to take the podium here in Belgrade to introduce the Annecy bid plan following the ANOC meetings in Acapulco where Jean-Claude Killy featured in the opening video.

Bid chair Edgar Grospiron said, “We were very happy about his presentation and his presence to show the support. Some people have asked us if the IOC members were involved so Guy was there and made it very clear that he is totally behind us. Jean-Claude was in the last video so he has made his voice known.”

Grospiron insisted that the Annecy bid was now even more secure going forward with the compact bid plan which was redeveloped after observations from the IOC. He said: “It’s an ongoing process and every time it is different. But we are building our bid until the very end and here in front of Europe it was very important to show the support of Guy.”

Bid ambassador and champion skier Pernilla Wiberg said, “I felt confident that the bid message came across well that we have integrated the new plan deep into the middle of the mountains. I was very happy with how it came across.”

Annecy's revision has created a more focused concept based around Annecy itself and the Chamonix areas.

On January 11 the bid cities will consign their bid books to the IOC on gthe eve of its Executive Board meeting in Lausanne. Next stop in terms of bid presentations to delegates will be the SportAccord convention in London in April.

Annecy is in the running against Munich and PyeongChang with the decision falling next July at the Durban IOC session.
