ACAPULCO, Oct 21: The Munich bid for the 2018 winter Games is looking to promote its vision as a multi-cultural sports event. Video messages presented to the Association of National Olympic Committees depicted people from all corners of the planet yet also a complex technological plan to illustrate the venue plan.

Munich’s presentation was opened by IOC vice-president and German NOC president Thomas Bach who is also a likely candidate for the IOC presidential election.

He said: “Having this opportunity to present an overview of our technical concept to all NOCs was very positive for Munich 2018. The initial reaction from NOC colleagues around the world has been positive but we have a long way to go. We will listen carefully and react to all feedback.”

He was followed by gold medal skater Katarina Witt who also is the chair of the bid committee and her message was directed to inspire the athletes. Effervescent Witt carried the majority of the presentation and was joined by Christian Ude, Mayor of Munich, IOC member Claudia Bokel and bid ceo Bernhard Schwank.

Witt said, “Our goal is to create a Festival of Friendship for the winter Games that sparks as much magic outside the stadium as it does on the field of play.”

Munich Mayor Christian Ude spoke about the city’s tradition for entertainment and Chancellor Angela Merkel sent a video message ensuring the total backing of the German government. She emphasized that Germany “extends a hand of friendship to the entire world.”

Schwank had a clear message to the NOCs that the bid would work to help them and their athletes for the best sports experience ever.
