LAUSANNE, Oct 14: Even the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in August proved unable to escape a dope-test disappointment, according to a statement from the International Olympic Committee.

Two wrestlers - Ecuador's Johnny Pilay and Uzbekistan's Nurbek Hakkulov - tested positive for the diuretic Furosemide, a prohibited substance and have been banned retrospectively from the event by the IOC disciplinary commission.

The commission also urged the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles and the respective National Olympic Committees to inquire into the circumstances and role of trainers, doctors or other medical staff.

Athletes' entourages are becoming a focus of attention after last year's Congress in Copenhagen created a commission to address the responsibility of the supporting coaching and medical staff. The Commission, chaired by Sergey Bubka, meets for the first time in December.

The IOC also suggeted that Pilay and Haakulov should be provided with additional support and information on the danger of doping. Specific accompanying measures will be put in place in cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency and the National Anti-Doping Organisations concerned.

The IOC conducted 1,231 tests (1,097 urine and 134 blood) during the YOG in Singapore. All samples were tested at the WADA-accredited laboratory in New Delhi, India. Tests were conducted pre- and post-competition. All medallists were tested. Doping controls included testing for all prohibited substances and methods listed in the WADA Prohibited List.
