TAMPA/PYEONGCHANG, Oct 8: The Korean Ski Association hosted a youth ski jumping camp at the PyeongChang Alpensia Resort promoting winter sports and targeting future Olympians.
The PyeongChang 2018 bid supported the camp which involved several fundamentals of ski jumping including basic skills development, landing techniques, and a number of practice jumps with participants also taking part in a number of recreation classes.
It was sponsored by the Sports Toto and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) as part of their campaign to promote ski jumping.
The ‘I am a Ski Jumper’ camp was attended by 100 budding winter athletes and was held at the statuesque ski jumping stadia which is slated to stage the opening and closing ceremonies if PyeongChang is selected as the 2018 Host City.
Bid ceo Yang Ho Cho, said, “The 2010 ‘I am a Ski Jumper’ camp has provided an excellent opportunity for young athletes to learn and develop their skills under expert guidance.
“Expanding the interest and participation in winter sports activities is one of the core values of PyeongChang’s 2018 bid and we will host a number of similar events in the coming months to help spread the Olympic spirit and develop winter sports throughout Asia.”
The attendees were treated to a demonstration by the Korean national ski jump team who performed a series of jumps for the young athletes.
PyeongChang is bidding against European candidates Munich and Annecy in the race for the 2018 Olympics. The final decision will be voted in July 2011 at the IOC session in Durban, South Africa.
