NBC: Bucky Gunts picks up Emmy award for Vancouver opening ceremony

TAMPA, Aug 30: NBC director Bucky Gunts wins an Emmy award for the televising of the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremony. The Emmys are awarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the USA and are the most prestigious television awards.
The coverage of the Games in February was watched by 190 million Americans on the networks of NBC Universal, making it the second-most watched Winter Olympics ever, surpassing Salt Lake City (187 million) and ranking only behind the Lillehammer Games which benefited from the tabloid media storm.
Gunts won the award category for Outstanding Directing for Variety, Music or Comedy Special and is a 20-time Emmy winner.
He said, “It really is an honor to cover the Olympics” and he thanked the network, his co-workers and NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Chairman Dick Ebersol.
Gunts also won Emmys for directing the televising of the opening ceremonies of the Salt Lake, Athens, and Beijing Games.
