TAMPA/CHUNCHEON CITY, Aug 20: Gangwon Province is showing its versatility as both a winter and summer sports destination by hosting the first World Leisure Games coming up August 28-September 5th in ChunCheon city. The capital city is famous for its lakes and festivals and is ranked by Koreans as the nicest city to live in.

The inaugural event will be held based on the theme "Improving the quality of life through leisure experiences" and will gather 13,000 participants, both world-class athletes and ordinary citizens, coming from 50 countries.

There will be nine international sports on the program and six national. The international championships will include: International B3 Action Sports Championships, WSSA World Inline Slalom Competition, IFSC Sports Climbing World Cup, IDSF World Cup Ten Dance Championship,  IWWF Water ski World Cup, IWWF Wakeboard World Cup, ChunCheon World Inline Cup, International Paragliding Games, ChunCheon World and the Leisure Cup Billiards Challenge.

The six national championships are: Inline (track, road), Sport Fishing, Model Aircraft, Power Paragliding, B-boy, and Jokgu.

The 2009 World Wakeboard Championships were also successfully staged there at Uiam Lake just one year ago.

TV coverage of the inaugural World Leisure Games will be extensive in South Korea and the World Cup Stop at ChunCheon City will feature in both TV News Edits and a 26 minute edited highlights show which will be distributed to over 500 million viewers.
