TAMPA/PYEONGCHANG, Aug 13: The PyeongChang 2018 bid for the winter Games has appointed Yang Chung Park the new secretary general for international relations. Park will be in charge of directing and coordinating the bid’s international activities and will be present at sporting events to promote the bid to the sports movement.

Park said: “I am delighted to join the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee with this important responsibility.  I am committed to communicating to the global sports community our will and enthusiasm, as well as the level of investment and preparation we’ve already achieved. I believe this bid has something very special to offer the Olympic Movement.”

He has also served as a foreign diplomat for Korean and as Korean Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union. Currently he is the chairman of the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC).

Bid chair Yang Ho Cho welcomes him aboard and said, “We are very pleased to have Mr. Park join PyeongChang 2018’s efforts.  His expertise and insight will be a real asset for the Bid Committee and he will be playing a crucial role in communicating PyeongChang’s bid to the international sports community.”

Parks’s appointment follows the other designation of four time Olympian Kwang-bae Kang as the new director in charge of sports.

PyeongChang is in the bid race with Annecy and Munich to host the winter Olympics of 2018. The final vote will take place at the IOC session in Durban, South Africa in July 2011.
