TAMPA/ANNECY, Aug 06: The expedition for peace on Mont Blanc was a resounding success with a team of eight young Israeli and Palestinians making a statement in the spirit of collaboration and solidarity. Last week's bold initiative was organized by the Coexistences association and supported by the Annecy 2018 bid to encourage the uniting of nations through sport.

Mont Blanc is considered by many as a universal symbol of peace, solidarity and personal challenge and the focal point of the Annecy 2018 winter Games bid.

The climbers were led by Swiss mountaineer Jean Troillet, notable for a record-breaking ascent of Everest. The troop took up intense training in Galilee for the past few months under the eye of two experienced mountaineers in Israel’s Doron Erel and Olfat Haider from Palestine.

Edgar Grospiron, ceo of the Annecy 2018 bid lauded the expedition and praised the example set in the name of peace, solidarity and sharing between nations, thanks to sport and its values.

Annecy is running against PyeongChang and Munich to host the 2018 winter Olympics. The decision will be voted next July at the IOC session in Durban, South Africa.
