TAMPA, Aug 4: Gold medal superstar figure skater Yu-na Kim will be honored by the city of Los Angeles this Saturday receiving the “Proud Korean Award” for her role modeling to the Korean citizenship of the city. The news was reported in the Korean press today.

A resolution was passed unanimously in the City Council for “Yu-na Day” on Saturday and celebrations will be held with the mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa. The skater has donated a pair of skates that will be kept at City Hall.

Also to be honored will be Korean-American diving Olympian Samuel "Sammy" Lee who won gold medals at the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games.

Los Angeles has a large population of over 120,000 Koreans and even though Kim trains in Toronto the Korean-American Leadership Foundation chose to acknowledge her impact on Koreans all over the world.

Kim is also part of the PyeongChang 2018 Athletes Committee and is putting her support behind them to land the gold to host the winter Games.
