TAMPA/ANNECY, July 24: The Annecy 2018 bid plan to host the winter Games has a secure hotel network with over 80,000 hotels located around the potential Olympic region. The Savoie Mont Blanc region boasts the world’s largest winter tourist accommodations with more than one million beds in all categories.

As reported in the La Vie Nouvelle regional news source, this hotel network is located within a 50 km radius of the center of the Games’ plan and 10 km of the competition centers. The IOC requires 23,500 hotel rooms so the designated area can easily meet the demand.

The Alpine mountain region of the Haute-Savoie region is widely known as a winter sports tourism hotspot “The Venice of the Alps”, with its canals, old town, lake, hotels and renowned restaurants. The existing hotel network is world class and over 25,000 of them carry three to five stars on a quality rating basis.

Edgar Grospiron, Moguls Olympic Champion (1992, Albertville) and CEO of Annecy’s 2018 Bid says, “Land of Winter sports, with a great tradition of welcoming guests, the Savoie Mont Blanc region is the leading winter sport destination in the world, with over 4800 km of snow-covered slopes in 110 of world famous ski resorts (Chamonix, Megève, Courchevel…). This is a fantastic natural and existing playground!

"We are in capacity to host Winter Games, but Annecy’s bid is guided by the ambition to organize exceptional Games, to celebrate the universal values of sports and the Olympics – in a festive and shared spirit.

"This is what we wanted the most: offer an innovative Games’ project to the IOC, those of sporting, economic and environmental excellence. A project that will take into account our territory’s authenticity –home of the 1st Winter Olympic Games, Chamonix 1924- and forward-looking for the mountains and Winter sports.

"We want to demonstrate our capacity to renew, create and…surprise!”

Currently the bid team is securing the roster of hotels to be ready by their dateline of September asking for price guarantees to ensure cost limits and confirming quality levels to meet international standards. Hoteliers already in the Aix-les-Bains, Annecy, and Megève areas have begun to sign on their commitments.

Annecy is in competition with PyeongChang, Korea and Munich, Germany in the bid race to host the 2018 winter Olympics. The final decision will be voted in Durban, South Africa in July of 2011 at the IOC session.
