TAMPA/ANNECY, July 12: Hundreds of thousands of spectators and Annecy 2018 officials alike were out to cheer on the riders of the Tour de France as they arrived at the Morzine-Avoriaz destination.
As the world'smost renowned cycling challenge passed through the Savoie Mont-Blanc region the French public came out in droves to watch the peleton and enjoy the mountain venue and backdrop. Some were even out in the Olympic colors to show their support for the Annecy winter Games bid.
Bid leader Edgar Grospiron was there to meet the cyclists at the Morzine finish line. He said, “Sports here are a way of life, a second nature. Land of sports and champions, we host large scale international sports events in summer and winter on a regular basis: Tour de France, Evian Golf Master, or 60pc of World Cup ski events organized in France.
'Great venues'
"By next winter we will be ready for the international sports season with numerous World Cup Events in great venues such as: Val d’Isère,Courchevel, Chamonix, La Clusaz, La Plagne and Le Grand Bornand. It's a perfect opportunity to show the entire world our expertise in the organisation of major international competitions.”
The Tour de France is one of the most followed and viewed sports events in the world. It began on Saturday, July 3, and ends in Paris in the Champs Elysees on Sunday July 25 after one prologue and 20 stages covering 3,642 grueling kilometres.
