TAMPA/ANNECY, July 1: The former Olympic mayor was in town last week to meet with local mayors to get the flavor of the French bid and take in the beautiful summer panorama.

The Annecy 2018 bid team displayed the strong points to Whistler mayor Ken Melamed during Olympic Day ceremonies and a venue tour.

Melamed was enthusiastic, “Annecy has an extradordinary chance! The scenery is amazing and the Mont-Blanc is the selling point of the bid.

“Annecy 2018 has every chance to win the organisation of the 2018 Winter Olympics. They have all it takes to offer fantastic Games in the mountains. I was truly impressed by the concepts and the approach taken by the bid team.”

He also had a meeting with Annecy mayor Jean-Luc Rigaut and the bid team where they had a fruitful exchange of ideas.

Whistler was host to key Olympic events for the Vancouver Games held last February.  Melamed had the opportunity to visit the new Biathlon venue under construction in the Grand Bornand with Annecy Ambassador Jean-Pierre Vidal, Olympic alpine champion (Salt Lake City – 2002).

Gérard Perrissin-Fabert, the Mayor of the Grand Bornand together with Olympic Medalist Sylvie Becaert took him on a tour of the new shooting range in the center of the village.

Melamed also visited the cradle of the winter Olympics Chamonix and Mont-Blanc welcomed there by the mayor Eric Fournier who was happy to fill him in on the rich sporting history of the area.
