TAMPA/BUDAPEST, Jun 04: Budapest, Hungary is the next European city considering jumping into the 2020 summer Olympic bid race. So far Rome, Italy has stepped forward as a sure candidate in its second attempt to land the Olympics in the Eternal City.

Next Thursday the Budapest Local Council will meet and discuss the €14 billion development plan needed to prepare for the Games.

As reported in the Hungarian press the plan comprises HUF 2,400bn transportation developments, HUF 600bn media and athletic facility needs, and the construction of the Olympic Village. Funding would fall heavily on Hungarian taxpayers to the tune of 90pc as European Union funding couldn’t be counted on for the bid.

A portion would also have to come from private investors to complete the costs slated for the developments.

A group from the Dallas-Fort Worth area has also been in the process of looking at the ways and means of going for a 2020 bid despite the Chicago 2016 failed bid last October. Patrick Sandusky, head of USOC media, has reiterated that the USOC has no intention of considering potential 2020 cities at them moment.
