TAMPA/RIO, May 25: Following the IOC coordination commission visit last week the Rio 2016 organizing committee gets straight to work naming Leonardo Gryner as the new general director.

Rio president Carlos Arthur Nuzman said, “Leonardo Gryner was with us in all stages of the process, and knows the Rio 2016 project in details. The IOC Coordination Commission evaluation showed that the Rio 2016 Games organization is on the right track and, in this new position, Leonardo Gryner will be crucial for us to face the challenges of the coming years.”

The IOC was pleased with the overall progress but called on organizers to waste no time in getting the main organization functional to go forward with venue construction and to liaise with the government.

Gryner has a history with the Rio bid as head of communications and marketing director and also served in that position for the successful Rio 2007 PanAm Games.

Rio has brought in two companies Odgers & Berndtson and Deliotte to help them select their top executives. Deliotte will consult on the organizational structure of the organizing committee. Odgers & Berndtson have experience with Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 helping them choose their team.

A new communications and marketing director will be hired in due course.
