Annecy close to hitting cash target to run 2018 winter Games bid

PARIS, Feb 12: Annecy’s 2018 Winter Olympic bid team is confident it has secured the bulk of the €15m needed to press its campaign to win host rights in the face of competition from Munich and PyeongChang.

AREA-Eiffage (France-based construction group), BPCE (French banking group), CNR (French electricity provider) and Somfy (French automatic control solutions provider) constitute are the first Official Partners to come on board.

Also, all commercial partners involved in the French Olympic movement have rallied behind Annecy which has combined its marketing initiatives with those of the National Sporting Committee of France.

This means the five national partners of the CNOSF - Orange, Adidas, EDF, Française des Jeux (French lottery operator) and Tarkett (French flooring company) – are also supporting the bid. Annecy 2018’s official partners have also, by way of exchange, become the national partners to the CNOSF and can to take advantage of the Olympic logo in their communications output within France.

Christian Monteil, chairman of the Haute-Savoie Conseil Général and of the Annecy 2018 supervisory board, said: “The commitment shown by key business players is a very positive sign because it gives the bid credibility as well as providing it with a financial boost.

“This type of support is crucial, especially from large companies that traditionally have a strong foothold in the region, such as Somfy, AREA or CNR. Altogether the partnerships that have been created already make up 80 per cent of our initial objectives, while further negotiations are in progress.

"We will allocate supplementary funds to expanding current communication and lobbying initiatives.”
