THIS DAY IN SPORT (DECEMBER 02) MARKS THE . . . 36th anniversary, from 1973, of the birth in the former Yugoslavia of Monica Seeles who would, among other titles and trophies, win Olympic Games gold in 1992. In other sports, this day in  1968 saw the birth of David Batty – the Blackburn and Leeds midfielder whose penalty miss cost England their chance of defeating Argentina in the 1998 World Cup second-round tie in Saint-Etienne. This day in 1975 saw Australia cricket captain Greg Chappell score a century in each innings against the West Indies.
