MONTE CARLO: World and Olympic champions Usain Bolt and Kenenisa Bekele are among the five contenders shortlisted for the male Athlete of the Year award.
Jamaica’s Bolt extended his superstar status when, at this year's world athletics championships in Berlin, he added the 100 metre and 200m titles to the Olympic golds he collected in Beijing in 2008.
Thus he is odds-on favourite to be voted in again as the International Association of Athletics Federations' male Athlete of the Year ahead of Ethiopian Bekele who managed the same fear over 5,000 and 10,000m.
The shortlist is completed by American sprinter Tyson Gay, Australian pole vaulter Steve Hooker and Norway's javelin thrower Andreas Thorkildsen.
