LONDON: Russian airline Aeroflot has become the latest commercial partner for the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – a ‘memorandum of understanding’ having been signed by director-general Vitaly Savelyev and Sochi 2014 president and ceo Dmitry Chernyshenko at the Moscow international aviation industry show.

The Aeroflot deal will run until the end of 2016 and will include the provision of air transport services to the competing Russian teams – including Vancouver 2010 and London 2012.

Aeroflot has also committed to increasing the number of regular internal flights to Sochi and to launch new direct flights from elsewhere in Europe.

Savelyev said: “This will not only help us to raise our profile in the aviation market but also to enhance the value of the Aeroflot brand.”

Other commercial partners include Megafon, Rostelecom, Rosneft as well as Sberbank. Worldwide Olympic partners signed up so far include Coca-Cola, Panasonic, Samsung and Atos Origin. Partnership categories still in negotiation include insurance and gas.
