TAMPA: Tokyo 2016 gathers more public support as the nation enjoyed festivities centered around the Olympic Day.

Japan celebrated with an Olympic Day Run in Osaka on June 7th and afterwards the Japanese Olympic Committee staged a concert in Tokyo who is bidding for the 2016 Games. Tokyo 2016 held a booth at the run and supporters were able to write messages to boost the bid.

“After two symbolic Olympic Day events held earlier this month,” said bid chairman Dr Ichiro Kono, “today we call on the citizens of Japan, Asia and the world to unite together in a spirit of peace, international fellowship and our mutual passion for sport. In celebrating International Olympic Day, Tokyo 2016 reaffirms its commitment to the Olympic Movement and to setting the stage for heroes through Games in the heart of the city.

“Alongside initiatives such as the ‘Olympic Games for All’ school roadshows and the introduction of the Olympic textbook to classrooms across Japan, our International Olympic Day celebrations demonstrate our tireless work to educate people of all ages on the values and importance of Olympism.”

Thousands turned out to enjoy the celebrations and experience world-class performances in the heart of the city. The 5K run has been held annually since 1987 and gathers people from all ages and backgrounds to come out and interact with Olympians and Paralympians alike.
