CHICAGO: Olympian Michael Jordan and Paralympian April Holmes have given endorsements in the latest public service announcement “Moments” featuring world class athletes with personal ties to the Windy City. These will be airing on the Chicago TV stations and extra editions will follow over the next months.
Bid Chairman, Patrick Ryan, said, “We thank the many Olympic and Paralympic athletes who contributed their time and stories to our new films, showing their support for our bid and reinforcing Chicago’s deep ties to the Olympic Movement.”
“Having athletes like Michael and April appear in our PSAs reinforces the support we have from the athlete community while giving the people of Chicago a glimpse into how the Olympic Movement changed their lives.”
The bid committee recently completed filming 14 PSAs that were developed for the purpose of the IOC evaluation commission visit and showcase the city and reinforce the public support message.
Jordan said on the announcement, “I’ve had some tremendous memories during my professional basketball career.”
“But the memory of standing as a representative of the United States at the Olympics is one of the proudest moments of my life. You step up on that podium representing your country. There’s no greater honor than doing that.”
“The Olympic Spirit, it’s alive in Chicago.”
Jordan also narrates the Holms film,“What a tremendous lady. Any time I see her, I go over and give her a big hug because of the motivation that she gives all of us — just by looking at her and understanding her dedication to the sport, her dedication to life.”
He concludes with the bid slogan "Let Friendship Shine".
Chicago is up against Madrid, Rio, and Tokyo for the 2016 Summer Games. Final decision is to be voted at the IOC session in October in Copenhagen.
