LONDON: British Olympic boss Andy Hunt will lead from the front at the Vancouver Winter Games in February 2010.

Hunt, appointed chief executive of the British Olympic Assocation only last November, will be Team GB’s chef de mission in a revamped administrative line-up. He will be responsible for leadership and management overseeing the work of four senior managers. These will include Sir Clive Woodward, England’s former World Rugby Cup-winning manager.

Woodward has been designated deputy chef de mission (performance) with Mark England the deputy chef de mission (operations), Hugh Chambers as director of marketing and partnerships then Mike Hay as director of preparation camp.

Hunt believes this structure will offer an unprecedented level of support for the team. He said: “These Games give us the chance to bring about a real step-change in the way we go about supporting Team GB. The values I bring to my job as chief executive are exactly the same ones I’m going to bring to this role – a focus on preparation, collaboration and continuous improvement in everything we do.

“British winter sport has had a great 2008-09 season with many podium finishes and we’re optimistic about outstanding performances at Vancouver.”

Endorsing Hunt’s strategy Lord Colin Moynihan, chairman of the Chairman, British Olympic Association, said: “Under Andy's leadership, the BOA will travel to Vancouver with the strongest Head Office support staff we have ever taken to a Winter Games.

"Andy has selected a capable and motivated team and he is the right man to head it.”

Woodward, who had a short spell in football administration with Southampton after leaving rugby union, explained his role as making sure “the BOA has given absolutely everything to deliver the best blueprint to allow our athletes and coaches to achieve their Olympic dreams.”
