Six nations in the race for 2nd YOG

TAMPA: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today revealed that a good six NOCs have applied to host the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games to be held in 2014.

The new event will see its first ever summer Games held in Singapore this next year and already the interest is gathering steam with the applications coming from China, Indonesia, Mexico, Morocco, Poland and Turkey for the next edition.

The following cities have been confirmed: Jakarta 2014 (Indonesia), Nanjing 2014 (China) and Poznan 2014 (Poland) and Mexico, Morocco and Turkey still have time until April 1, 2009 to designate their candidates.

Submission of the Candidature Files will be due on the 4th of September 2009 and later in December the IOC Executive Board is set to draw up a list of the finalist cities for evaluation.

The election and announcement of the Host City of the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games will take place at the 122nd IOC Session in Vancouver prior to the opening of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Upcoming editions will take place in Singapore in 2010 for the first summer event and Innsbruck, Austria in 2012 for the first winter Games.
