SOCHI: Sochi’s 2014 Winter organisers claim to have agreed the largest domestic sponsorship agreement in the history of the Olympic Movement. This follows the conclusion of an agreement with Rostelecom and MegaFon as the Games’ first tier one partners.

Organisers and companies have said that the deal will “help to revolutionize the Black Sea coastal region’s telecommunications infrastructure and deliver an innovative and technologically-advanced Winter Games.”

The deal for the telecommunications partner category is $260m. In addition, the two partners plan to invest about $200m in developing telecoms infrastructure in the Krasnodar region – thus bringing their total investment in the Sochi 2014 project to $500m.

The sponsorship agreements were officially signed off by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Alexander Zhukov; the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Kozak; the chairman of the IOC Sochi coordination commission, Jean-Claude Killy; and the IOC executive director, Gilbert Felli.

The agreements were also signed by Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Sochi 2014 president and ceo, Konstantin Solodukhin, general director of Rostelecom and Sergei Soldatenkov, general director of MegaFon.
