VANCOUVER: Ticket applications for the 2010 Winter Games closed Friday and VANOC recorded massive traffic on the official website with fans scrambling for requests.

VANOC has yet to release statistics on the number of applications or which events had been completed and were heading for lottery ticketing. Tickets range from $25 for cross-country-ski events to $775 each for the best seats at the men's gold-medal hockey game and $1,100 for the best seats at the opening ceremony.

Some 1.6m tickets will be available overall for sale to catch the events.

Caley Denton, vice-president of ticketing for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, said in a statement that request counts were still in course and that results would be notified on Thursday by John Furlong, VANOC chief executive officer, to the Vancouver Board of Trade with results.

Denton confirmed that all the requests had been processed and that it would be early December before first round sales would be clarified to see which events were still available if any.

High demand for requests proves that Canadians are embracing the Games and planning ahead to attend.
