LONDON: Squash’s top women players are heading off on dates – all 365 of the days of next year.

That does not mean they are missing out on tournaments or training. Instead the stars of the Women’s International Squash Players Association have swapped their court kit for haute couture in the inaugural 2009 WISPA Calendar.

Players and officials believe the calendar will become a collectors' item – and may help indirectly to generate more awareness of both the sport and, as a consequence, its bid to gain a place in the Olympic programme at the Games in 2016.

Squash is one of seven sports – along with baseball, golf, karate, roller sports, rugby union and softball – competing for IOC votes in Copenhagen next October. Women’s world champion Nicol David is among the players featured in the calendar.

WIPSA’s chief executive Andrew Shelley said: “Anybody who has ever wanted a date with a top female squash player can now have 365 of them! We wanted to show off some of our stars in a fun way; in a different style if you like.  They enjoyed doing it and I am sure that the WISPA Calendar will become an annual feature."

Details of how to purchase the calendar (30cm x 30cm) are available from the WISPA website
