(SFC) The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organising Committee signed Asiana Airlines as a “global premium partner” Wednesday at Gwangju City Hall.

Gwangju Mayor and GUOC Chairman Yoon Jang-hyun, GUOC Secretary General Kim Yoon-suk, and Asiana Airlines President Kim Soo-cheon were in attendance at the signing ceremony. Asiana Airlines will deliver airline tickets, baggage service, and other airline-related assistance for athletes of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, as well as promotion of the event on its aircraft.

“I am very pleased and delighted that the global airline company, Asiana Airlines, is sponsoring the Gwangju Universiade,” Yoon said. “I hope the Gwangju Universiade, a global sports festival for the youth, will become an opportunity for the Asiana Airlines to advance even further.”

Asiana Airlines will be allowed to use the title of official sponsor of the Gwangju Universiade and the official event logo, as well as advertisements on athlete uniforms and in competition venues.

“As an official sponsor of the Gwangju Universiade, we will put forth our best effort to support the successful preparations and hosting of the Games,” Kim said.

GUOC sent the proposed sports competition schedule for the Gwangju Universaide to the International University Sports Federations for approval at the FISU Executive Meeting, which will take place in October of this year.

Football and water polo competitions will kick off the event 2 July 2015, though the Opening Ceremony will be held a day later. Water polo will have at least one event each of the 12 days of the Universiade, which will hand out 272 gold medals through 14 July.

Fifty gold medals will be won in athletics, while 42 will be handed out in swimming.

“Overall games preparations based on the complete sports competition schedule, as well as operational readiness in all necessary categories, will be made thoroughly in order to host a successful Gwangju Universiade next year,” Kim said.
