May 7 - Vladimir Putin has been sworn in as Russia’s president for a second time today and the first person he officially met with was International Olympic Committee (IOC) head, Dr. Jacques Rogge.
Making a statement about the Sochi 2014 Games being a priority, President Putin met with Rogge at the Kremlin only an hour after being sworn into office.
Putin served as President of Russia for two consecutive terms from 2000-2008 when IOC head Jacques Rogge himself was elected to lead the IOC in Moscow in July of 2001.
He was also a driving force behind the Sochi 2014 bid which won the winter Games in 2007. From 2008 to 2012 he has served as Prime Minister of Russia.
The first Russian winter Games will be held in the Black Sea resort area of Sochi in February of 2014 and probably President Putin will be there again as first citizen to open the Olympics.
