TAMPA: Five cities submitted applicant files yesterday to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) making their proposals to host the 2020 summer Games official. The cities will be chosen as actual candidate cities in May in just a few months.
After a drawing of lots, Istanbul (Turkey), Tokyo (Japan), Baku (Azerbaijan), Doha (Qatar) and Madrid (Spain) all consigned their bid plans to the IOC by the February 15th deadline.
Next on the agenda, the IOC will examine the applicant files with an appointed working group and a appraisal report will be submitted to the IOC Executive Board for consideration at their meeting in May at the SportAccord convention in Quebec City.
Given that there are five cities the IOC may make a short list and then they may not, this remains to be seen.
