TAMPA: The newly appointed Mayor of Madrid, Ana Botella, took her elite level team over to the bid offices for their first official visit to personally see the headquarters in the historic heart of the capital and to meet everyone.
Botella was joined by the Vice-Mayor, Miguel Ángel Villanueva, and the Councillor for Institutional Coordination and International Relations, Patricia Lázaro.
Alejandro Blanco, President of the Madrid 2020, and Víctor Sánchez, CEO, hosted the visit.
The Mayor and Blanco held a meeting to overview the final details of the applicant city file to be submitted next week. They met with Víctor Sánchez, Miguel Ángel Villanueva, Patricia Lázaro and also the three General Directors of the Organization –Raúl Chapado (Sports), Alfonso Rodríguez de Sadia (Marketing and Communication) and Manuel Parga (Administration, Finances and Human Resources).
Alejandro Blanco will be joined by Theresa Zabell, International Relations CEO, Raúl Chapado, Sports Director, and Manuel Cano, Communication Manager when they go to Lausanne next week to consign the application file.
Bid branding in the city
The city also was decked out with the new Madrid 2020 logo representing the Alcala Gate on all the main streets of Madrid to spread awareness about the campaign. More than 700 streetlights dressed up with more than 1,500 flags were positioned throughout the city.
The branding campaign will last through the end of the month and will be the first of four domestic campaigns to promote the bid and rally support among the citizens.
Madrid is running in the race for the 2020 Games against Baku, Doha, Istanbul, Rome and Tokyo. The IOC will make their final decision in September of 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
