FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
It’s the finals of the KTA 11/12 Asian Kiteboard Tour and it’s heading to a new location, Pingtan Island off the East coast of China for what could be its biggest event ever.
HONG KONG: It’s the end of the main SE Asia kiteboard competition season for the KTA which brings it back to China for the third time. It’s a season that has been tough one with budgets and sponsorship harder than ever to find in the current climate, but it’s all about to finish on a complete high with its best riders package ever!
US$ 30,000 of cash along with over US$ 10,000 of equipment prizes will be up for grabs at the closing event of the Asia tour and in addition to this stella prize package all competitors will be able to take advantage of a free a 5 start riders hotel package also. All of which is courtesy of the KTA China’s Presenting Sponsor the Pingtan County People’s Government and the KTA Tour Brand Sponsors, Cabrinha, Underground Kiteboards and Maelstorm.
Pingtan Island is a new location in China for the KTA and steps forward as the latest of China’s new economic development zones, which in this case due to the island’s location in the Taiwan Straits is being heralded as a gateway for Taiwan into China. Pingtan Island offers not only potentially some of the best winds for KTA, but also large wide sand beaches and stunning coastline. The island itself is a mad mix of old style traditional stone buildings and the construction drive for the future making it a unique insight and experience of the contrasts of China today.
The KTA tour-stop in scheduled from the 16-20 May 2012 and forms not only the China round of the Asia Tour but also the KTA Tour Finals for this season. Last month saw the awarding of the Asian Championship Titles in Thailand, but in May it will be the KTA Tour Titles to decide. So expect plenty of action with so much at stake and so much on offer to win.
KTA Tour Championship Titles are open to any nationality and are the combination of the overall scores from all the rounds of the KTA this season.
The KTA Tour Champions to be crowned in China will be -
Freestyle - men and women
Course Race RB Class - men and women
Course Race TT Class - men and women
With the pre-entry registration already reaching its maximum the KTA is fully expecting to see up to 100 riders taking part in the event.
Free media and press hotel accommodation is also being provided at the KTA China and interested parties should contact the KTA (details as below) for further information and registration.

About KTA
The KTA was formed to give an international platform to the skills and talents of kiteboarders throughout Asia, and to bring professional level competition and training to the region. The KTA launched the first international tour of its kind in Asia in September 2009 visiting five countries over the 2009/2010 season.
Following the success of its first tour the KTA is back for the 2010/11 season with a further five stop Asian Tour and a new range of national level, stand alone, Open Events.
The KTA is open to everyone from anywhere, amateur and pro riders alike. It is the one and only officially Asian continental tour sanctioned by the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA), the kitesurfing world governing body, which in turn is the class representative to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) sanctioning international sailing competitions from world championship to Olympic levels.
KTA's philosophy is to start slow and grow steadily. They are focused on giving homegrown riders the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of being part of an international competition scene. The KTA hopes to provide a stepping-stone for the region’s best riders onto the World tour scene by giving them the full experience of high level competition at a more local level, and who knows, maybe in the process discover a future world champion!
The KTA Asian Tour will result in tour stop event champions, the eventual overall KTA open tour champions, and the Asian champions and world rankings in the IKA and ISAF sanctioned classes of freestyle and kite racing.
